Bay Window Shutters will help show off your bay’s original features; filtering light levels on all sides and create an effect that can look so dramatic and transformative or subtle, everyone will think you’ve restyled the room.

At last, your bay windows can be free from curtain tracks and fiddly blinds cords; replaced with elegant shutter panels that can simply be tilted to avoid the glare of the sun or add extra privacy.

Bay Window Shutter FAQ's

The main difference between bay window shutters and regular flat window shutters is the uniquely angled frame built to precisely fit your bay window.

Shutter blinds are usually constructed from wood, ranging from luxury hardwoods to durable engineered woods like MDF. Other material options are available like PVC and ABS plastics. These materials are usually recommended for bathrooms and other wet areas in the home.

Bay Window Shutters have a unique angled frame designed to fit the exact measurements of your bay window. Once this frame is attached to the window recess, the shutter panels hang off this frame and not the window frame itself.

Fitting a bay window shutter should take a professional fitter or joiner around 2-3 hours, depending on the size of the window. Large bay windows may need two or more people to make sure the shutters are fitted correctly.
The price of bay window shutters will vary depending on a few factors: the square metre (m2) of your bay window, the material of the shutters and the extras you choose, such as a custom colour. As a general guide, prices range from around £799 – £1,500 for wooden shutters and slightly less for PVC shutters. You may find costs vary depending on suppliers, however we always recommend shopping around for several quotes and comparing price vs. quality.

The short answer is yes. In over 15 years supplying and fitting shutter blinds, we’ve never found a bay window that couldn’t have shutters fitted precisely. In fact, there are three main types of bay windows found in British homes, and all of them can be covered with stylish wood shutters.

A regular bay window has 3 panels (one for each window). The number of shutter doors is determined by the size of the individual panels. If the angles of the bay are 90 degrees, this is sometimes referred to as a “Box Bay” window.

If you have a “bow bay” window with more than 3 panels you may need to upgrade to a lighter material to support more shutter doors.

Finally, an “L shape” bay window has just two panels. This is usually treated the same as a regular bay window.

When it comes to matching your shutters to your home’s interior style, there are endless options; from statement custom colours to natural earth tones and everything in-between. Add an elegant highlight with metallic finishes to the hinges, locks and latches or functional upgrades like hidden hinges. We advise speaking with your local shutter specialist who will suggest ways to make your shutter blinds match your décor perfectly.
